Gone Fishing
I grew up in Teignmouth and have always had a great love of the sea and the Devon countryside. I left for London in 1968 and, having trained to teach art, I was a primary teacher for many years. I returned to Teignmouth when my daughter was small.
In 1998 my husband and I started our first gallery. We moved to larger premises in 1999 where "Turn of the Tide Gallery" is still situated. I have been a full-time artist since 1998.
I have painted the beaches, the sea, the skies, the boats, beach huts & Devon hills, using colour and light to capture the effects of changing weather and seasons. I want to catch the essence of the places I paint rather than just make a representation.
I have come to love the Scilly Isles and their special light and vibrant colours. Visits to South West Ireland, together with Scilly were the inspiration behind my painting of isolated cottages beside the sea.
During the last few years I have painted a whole new series of work using my own observations and imagination. I like my paintings to tell a story, to capture other peoples imagination.
My work is now owned by Private Collectors from as far a field as Australia and America.
